For photographers interested in a fresh creative expression for their images, I'm passing along information about a fabulous teacher and friend, Sandy Carrion, who is teaching an online, HANDS ON workshop in January.

Image transfers onto wood are an excellent starting point for encaustic or cold wax art pieces. This workshop walks you through the basics on how to move an image onto a different, more suitable surface.  -- Jill

Photographers have been mesmerized by the act of moving their photographic images onto substrates other than photo paper. This introductory Image Transfer workshop will take you through the basics of using hand sanitizer and a special transparency film to do just that!

The resulting image is reminiscent of the Polaroid process look popularized in the 1980's. Your final result can be an exact replica of your image or morph into a more painterly version. It's up to you.

The process is simple to learn and produces uniquely beautiful results every time.

During both sessions we will work together to perfect the transfers. After you register, a materials kit will be shipped so that you have everything you need for both classes. No other preparation is needed for the first session.

Cost - $195
Includes two 2-hr. online Zoom sessions and a materials kit

Preparation and Logistics for Our Online Workshop

All materials will be shipped for both sessions as soon as registration is complete. A workspace near your computer is suggested. You should have Adobe Lightroom Classic and/or Adobe Photoshop installed and have a basic understanding of either program. You will need one of these programs to prepare and print your files. Gather your images ahead of time. Still life's, portraits, landscapes, abstracts, etc. all work equally well. It is preferred that you use images that are less cluttered and not too dark, but you may use any subject.

Session 1
  • Everyone will work with the same copyright free images provided.
  • Using these sample files, you will migrate the images to a new substrate.
  • Create 4 transfers that will be mounted onto cardstock to be used as note cards.
  • Demonstrate steps to prepare and print individual images that are required to continue in Session 2. A pigment inkjet printer is needed for you to print your own images, Epson or Canon work equally well. Please contact us if you have questions about your equipment.

Session 2
  • A review of the basic transfer process.
  • Work with your preprinted files using hand sanitizer and Super Sauce.
  • Explore new substrates such as rice paper and metal.
